HUNT TYPES

lion, bobcat & wolf Hunts

A hunt combining Mountain Lion, Bobcat and Wolf in the Idaho back country is one of the premiere hunting experiences available anywhere. These are classic hunts with horses, hounds and a lot of “yahoos”. Pungo Mountain Outfitters area is situated within large wintering grounds for elk, deer, and bighorn sheep.  These ungulates attract lions, wolves and bobcats to our area providing us opportunities found in very few places. We thoughtfully limit winter hunts to ensure we do not upset nature’s balance of predator/prey relationships.

Spring Spot & Stalk Bear, Wolf, & Fishing

Join Pungo Mountain Outfitters for a 5-day, 6-night hunt for bears and wolves in the heart of the Frank Church Wilderness in Idaho. This is a 2-on-1 spot and stalk hunt in some of the most wild and remote wilderness left in America. One guest will fly into a backcountry airstrip and stay in a wall tent with hearty meals provided daily. We will travel by foot and/or horseback to access our large hunting area. The Middle Fork of the Salmon River is incredibly steep and rugged. We highly recommend that you show up in top physical condition to ensure a successful hunt. You have a high likelihood of finding a mature bear and color phase bears are very common in our area. You will see hundreds of deer, elk and bighorn sheep still densely concentrated on their low elevation winter range in early spring, making wolves much easier to pattern and locate this time of year.

Spring Bear / Wolf Drop Camp Service

On select dates during the spring bear season we offer a drop camp service to groups of spring bear hunters.

Fly Fishing and Hot Springs

The pristine waters of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River, along with its tributaries and high mountain lakes, are considered some of the best cutthroat fishing in the West. Wether you are a lifelong angler or a beginner looking to learn in an incredible classroom, Pungo Mountain Outfitters can customize a once in a lifetime fishing trip for you. We have walk and wade access to 20 miles of the Middle Fork of the Salmon River along with over 50 miles of remote creek fishing and over a dozen high mountain lakes.

As water from snowmelt and rain percolate through the Idaho batholith, it is slowly heated as it sinks deeper into the earth’s crust. It then becomes less dense then the water surrounding it and finds its way back to the earth’s surface through cracks in the rock, trickling into pools and waterfalls, waiting for the weary adventurer to “take a soak.” This unique experience can be a welcome addition to your winter lion hunt, spring bear hunt or fishing trip.
